With the right application

A four year old doing Mark Rothko a plane

With the right application, a four year old can do Mark Rothko.
Is that good Or Bad?
.

Not strictly ballroom

Coming out of the movie theatre, after seeing " The great Gatsby", I was not not sure of what I could actually say about this film.
Plus, maybe it's best not to, as I wouldn't want to ruin it for those of you who haven't seen it.
And see it you should, for if there ever was a movie made for the big screen, 3D, surround sound system... in short the full cinematic, Hollywood experience , blah blah blah... this is it.
However, as a result:
-At the next Oscar's ceremony, "best costume" for Muccia (Prada), it's a given. The dresses, the shoes, and best of all (more subtle of course) the menswear.
All men should dress in 20's style linen suits and light knits.
Hence no tension there.
-I've ordered the book!!! Almost ashamed I haven't read it yet.
-I went back to one of my favourite cinematic loves, a film I could almost define myself by: for style, story, corky characters, costume, music...
trrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr (drums): "Strictly ballroom" Baz Luhrmann's first feature film.
-I now love Leo
What do you think?

Galabia heritage

My mother
me

Looking at these photos of my galabia days, way back when, It makes me dream of something simple and light and so comfortable.
Something familiarly retro (like a uniform), yet contemporary and elegant.
It's a rebirth of sorts...

Summer knitwear... designed by

White light weight cotton knit... designed by the concept dresser

I love love love summer knitwear.
Of course it should really come with a yacht and moccasins, or at least some fancy European location.
Second best, an office with an extremely efficient air conditioning, where one can flaunt bourgeois sensitivity and good taste.
May I also remind you that Bedouin in the desert are covered head to toe, all year around.
Therefore, shut up and be beautiful

School holiday nightmare...

Ag-a-doo-doo-doo, push pineapple, shake the tree
Aga-doo-doo-doo, push pineapple, grind coffee
To the left, to the right, jump up and down and to the knees
Come and dance every night, sing with a hula melody

I met a hula mistress somewhere in Waikiki
Well she was sellin' pineapple, playin' ukulele
And when I went to the girl, come on and teach me to sway
She laughed and whispered to me, yes come tonight to the bay

The lovely beach, in the sky the moon of Kauai
Around calypso sarong we'll all be singin' this song

Ag-a-doo-doo-doo, push pineapple, shake the tree
Aga-doo-doo-doo, push pineapple, grind coffee
To the left, to the right, jump up and down and to the knees
Come and dance every night, sing with a hula melody

Aga-doo-doo-doo, push pineapple, shake the tree
Aga-doo-doo-doo, push pineapple, grind coffee
To the left, to the right, jump up and down and to the knees
Come and dance every night, sing with a hula melody

And down on the shore they gather romance
She showed me much more, not only to dance...

Aga-doo-doo-doo, push pineapple, shake the tree
Aga-doo-doo-doo, push pineapple, grind coffee
To the left, to the right, jump up and down and to the knees
Come and dance every night, sing with a hula melody

Aga-doo-doo-doo, push pineapple, shake the tree
Aga-doo-doo-doo, push pineapple, grind coffee
To the left, to the right, jump up and down and to the knees
Come and dance every night, sing with a hula melody

The lovely beach, in the sky the moon of Kauai
Around calypso sarong we'll all be singin' this song

Monkey sees, monkey does
Too close for comfort

Surprised?
Yep, it happens to the best of us, convinced by friends because:
"It's so cheap"
"the kids will love it"
"What, you've got something better to do?"
And secretly, after discovering the fabulouse Martin Parr , I was curious and inspired to dab my finger into"real world" imaging.
I spent the night in a bungalow, and all I got was... some lousy photos
.

I you can't go... check out second best...

Inspired by Keith

Me in the Keith Haring exhibition: I was inspired and this is the result
.

Street art in a museum

Speaking of street art... I've just seen Keith Haring in the museum of modern art in Paris.
Of course what I would have really liked to say is: I've just seen Keith doing his art in the street, but that's not possible unfortunately.
I do have a friend, who has an uncle, who'd seen him. Does that count?
Moving on...
The thing I liked best about that exhibition (as I imagine Keith would as well), was that photography was allowed,
and everyone was free to share with friends... the world... the universe...
in this galaxy and others, via smart phones and social networks (thus all these photos, I took with my Iphone, as I thought it was more in the spirit of street art, and art for all).
And although I find Keith slightly repetitive at times, I appreciate his initiative and frantic style.
If that's not social realism...

If I ever buy All-Star

If I ever decide to buy a pair of All-Star's (big if), they will be in black, because they are the most low-keyed, (maybe slightly under-estimated in the fashion sense), humble looking, none of that "I'm so daring, and fashion forward, and fun, because I bought a pair of yellow All-Star's".
They are almost like a rocker's uniform, without the exhausting excitement.
They are a retro icon, a fave without fail, and recently I've noticed Marty Mcfly ("Back to the future")
wears them.
If that's not reason enough...
.

I know... Arabian nights

Forget the Hacienda, desperately seeking Laurence (of Arabia)...
Plus I've just met a wonderful photographer from Istanbul , which really got me thinking dreaming...
.

I'm thinking... Spanish colonization of the Americas

Since I finished reading Zorro, I'm swept away by names like Pedro, Diego, Alejandro...
I would like to spend a weekend in an hacienda meeting hidalgos .
After reading Anna Karenina I was ready to leave for Russia...
Where shall I go to next?

Hang loose

Waiting for the sun, no Jim Morrison in sight

In Verse:
As urban as I am,
heart and soul,
I couldn't, but get emotional by these spring floral bushes.
Even more so,
because today it's raining and miserable,
and it's just comforting to know, that these flowers,
are,
as I,
waiting for the sun.

My boy AB

What's better then hanging out with a friend... who played an important part in your history...who is a wonderful artist... with whom you can have great "back&forth" conversations... who gets your train of thought... (or at least, is polite enough to pretend he does)... who invites you to crash a wedding...
who is generous enough to introduce you to his amazing friends... in Paris?
Nope, can't think of a thing.

Paris forever

Because in Paris it's al about preserving traditions, and even the odd graffiti doesn't throw you off.
Because Paris is just so cool, and everybody knows it.
Because Paris is bigger then life... for most people.
Luckily, we'll always have Paris

Spring florals

So tired of Liberty prints, holly hobbie look (and Mary of the little lamb).
No giant roses for me, nor wall-papery designs.
I'm into something different (more little shop of horrores-esque-ish... you know?)

Live the life... a thought before the weekend

what's better then a piece of pink cream cake?

A thought for winter, while I'm still in the mood...

This photo is exactly what today feels like:
Child patiently standing outside store: like me waiting for brighter weather to come.
Ice ball melting away: winter helplessly giving up it's last strong holds.
Light dress and sandals in the window: waiting their turn.
I just couldn't ignore all those poetic nuances.
.

A thought about hats

Still haven't whipped out my Panama hat, (which I have resolved to get maximal use out of, this summer) and grey weather is back for the next couple of days.
This gives me a great opportunity to meditate on hat wearing.
Since most people are in the closet hat wearers, meaning they love the idea, they may even buy the hat and then... nada.
I say, let's glorify hat wearing, for standing out in a crowd, showing your true colours, and covering up for" bad hair" days.
Here here!!!

City-slicker's beach re-visited

I guess in some places around the world it's still winter (shocker!),
but where I am, it's getting warmer by the minute, and I find myself strangely attracted to beach-y stuff (a greater shocker!).
Strangely attracted, as I would never buy sanded down and whitened wooden furniture or colour my house white and blue, Santorini style.
None the less, as much as I see myself a city-slicker
(aii!!! too cheesy of an expression? Perhaps...),
I'm wearing a shell I found, on a gold chain around my neck and I'm posting these beach-style photos as my inspiration for the day.
Sorry, this can happen to anybody...

What spring cleaning is all about

When spring comes around, I start (and usually end) the big clean-up with a diet change.
Heavy soup and pasta-out.
Neo-grilled veggies- in.
And it's not just about the "what" but also the "where".
Preferably open spaces, chilled ambiance...
while hanging out with people you love.

Outfit of the day... If you care

Wadya know, another headless photo of moi...
And I'm wondering, is this vain? What has the internet brought us down to? Sharing details of our daily lives, that normally nobody would care about.
But with the ampler of the computer screen, it just seems so... normal!?!!
So if this is interesting for you, I will humbly succumb to sharing the little details:
-the pins on the lapel
(I'm actually very excited about those. Found them in a flee market in Arles, dating back to when commodities companies -Knor,Scotch-brite, etc.- made them for their faithful clients to wear).
(If that's not Consumerism par excellence, I wouldn't know what is).
-The gold etched bracelet,
-The dark green/blue polish,
-The Brazilian  bracelet and the agate (a kind of a stone) rings.

What's better then a coffee with a friend in Paris?

You might recognise this fine gentleman from my previous post (with the cat).
As much as I love travelling for fashion, nothing beats meeting a good friend for coffee (and I'm sure all my friends will agree with me on that one)
(Is it possible I only choose coffee appreciators as friends?)
(is that a topic for another post?)
Moving on...
Now that I have met Didier's magnificent cat in person, I promised myself that at the next opportunity I will photograph them together
.
